We remain committed to thoughtfully curated products and ingredient transparency. However, we also recognize that terms like “clean beauty,” “natural,” and “non-toxic” are often used inconsistently across the industry.

Our current approach focuses on helping customers understand ingredient lists, product claims, and formulation choices so they can make informed decisions based on their individual needs.

Beards & Bellas is committed to clean beauty because we believe in ingredient transparency, thoughtful formulation, and helping consumers make informed beauty choices. Many clean beauty programs are designed to exclude specific ingredients that brands or retailers have chosen not to use.

Our community has suffered immensely from misguided beauty purchases that have lead to long-term adverse effects on our health and nervous systems. There are a number of hormone disruptors that have been found in some of your favorite skin care products, and are still used to this day. It’s important to be aware of them in order to make sure you’re taking the best care of your skin. Five of the worst disruptors found in skin care products you probably have in your bathroom right now are; phthalates, parabens, oxybenzone, triclosan, and BPA.

Phthalates are used to help fragrances last longer, however, they can disrupt the endocrine system. Parabens are preservatives that prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, and yeast. However, they can also mimic hormones in the body and can disrupt the endocrine system. Oxybenzone is a chemical found in many sunscreens, and it can affect the reproductive system of marine life and be absorbed into the skin. Triclosan is an antibacterial agent found in many soaps and cosmetics, and it has been linked to endocrine disruption and bacterial resistance. BPA, which stands for bisphenol A, is used to make polycarbonate plastic, and it is linked to increased risk of cancer, birth defects, and infertility.

Consumers who wish to avoid certain ingredients should review product labels carefully, as clean beauty standards can vary across brands and retailers.
